Geriatric Patients

Inpatient geriatric programme: acute treatment programme to address a wide range of psychiatric disorders, such as
· Mood disorders
· Depression
· Psychosis
· Cognitive disorders
· Dementia, (higher incidence of psychological and behavioural problems including apathy, irritability, wandering…)

The Gero-Psychiatric team is highly skilled at completing comprehensive assessments and intervening in highly complex cases involving an interplay of medical, psychiatric, functional and psychosocial issues.

Most commonly treated functional problems:
· Impaired activities of daily living;
· Cognitive disorganisation;
· Disruptive behaviour.

· Comprehensive and multidisciplinary biopsychosocial evaluation
· Psychopharmacologic evaluation and management
· Psychological and brief neuropsychological assessment
· Safety and independent living skills evaluation
· Crisis-oriented family therapy and psychoeducation; caregiver support
· Psychosocial rehabilitation/recreational therapy Occupational therapy
· Discharge planning

Inpatient geriatric programme: Longterm stay
Some psychiatric patients growing older need special care due to age and/or illness. Most of them were previously living in a family (family care system). The main focus is on care.
